When it comes to collecting, in the sports card and memorabilia market, few can rival Michael Jordan. No other player in the history of sports is more widely recognized around the world and as such his investment rating, when it comes to trading cards and memorabilia, is unparalleled. As a result, the value of his rookie cards and autographed memorabilia is tantamount to putting money in the bank. Michael Jordan and the Upper Deck Company, which owns his rights for signed memorabilia, have carefully constructed and executed a strategy to make certain that the supply of his autographs never outstrips demand.
Michael Jordan`s career started at a time before trading card manufacturers were able to produce multiple rookie cards of the same player. At the peak of their demand, prices for Michael Jordan rookie cards, set new records for modern trading cards. The 1986-87 Fleer card is the most sought-after of all Michael Jordan rookie cards. It has repeatedly set and then re-raised the bar for modern era investment-quality sports cards.

How to tell a real Michael Jordan rookie from a reprint
I recently started collecting the Michael Jordan’s rookie I’m really interested in this a 1986 FLIR set and check this out oh yeah I made this video to show you the difference between the real thing which is graded by PSA and a reprint of course these reprints are made by Fleer the same company that created these but unfortunately there’s really no way to tell.
I mean between a reprint and the real thing unless the Seller tells you so I’m going to show you some things to look out for to know the difference between a real Michael Jordan and a fake Michael Jordan this is not the most expensive Jordan this is only a PSA 8 right so this is only about 1,000 the PSA tens those are like $15,000 right these reprints are worth I don’t know I got this one for a dollar.
so let’s analyze this reprint right now once you once you’ve bought the card Off of ebay it’s really simple to tell the difference right right away when you grab it it feels plastic II shouldn’t feel plasticky I have a Juan Gonzales rookie over here this is the real thing this is a baseball card from the 1990s right and when you feel it it just feels like cardboard it doesn’t feel anything different but this one is just it seems to perfect right put plastic on it so that the corners don’t bend so I’ve put the cards next right next to each other.
How To Spot A Fake Michael Jordan Rookie
To show you a huge difference okay so let’s take a look at this Fleer premiere right so on the real thing let me zoom in here notice how just look at that right see the orange arrow has like pointy dots on it right now let’s look on the reproduction you see that the arrow is almost yellow right the real thing ah the real thing and the fake the reprint do you see the difference there another thing that I noticed is that down here where the his Name is it’s a different color then do you see the color difference very slight color difference right let’s put the two together very slight now if you didn’t have the card with you you couldn’t even tell the difference which one was which okay now let’s look at the back right on the right side is the the Jordan.
There’s a few things to look out for:
- A less vibrant color selection, especially the blue around the name panel
- Ink bleeding around the intricate parts of the card – think small logos like the crown on the Fleer logo, and the eyes of the Bull on the Chicago Bulls logo
- Image clarity
